Juan Corona

Juan CoronaMaercker D60 is excited to announce the next principal of Maercker Intermediate School, Dr. Juan Corona, who was approved by the Board on March 18!

Dr. Corona has extensive experience in education beginning as a teacher for second and fifth grades, serving as a bilingual director to support dual language programming, and currently as an elementary school principal in East Aurora School District 131. He has a passion for working with young learners and empowering teachers to be their best.

“My dream job was to be a firefighter but I tore my ACL playing soccer and found a true passion for teaching and learning in my first education class,” said Corona. “Being in school is where I was blessed to learn and grow so I wanted to give that back and as I have been able to do that as an educator.”

“We had a highly competitive pool of candidates for this position and conducted three rounds of interviews to find the right fit,” said Superintendent Dr. Sean Nugent. “From the very beginning, Dr. Corona stood out with his passion, enthusiasm, and collaborative leadership style. His commitment to student success and ability to build strong relationships make him an outstanding addition to our leadership team and community.”

Dr. Corona says he was drawn to Maercker D60 because of the incredible diversity of the community and the history of collaboration in the area. His extensive experience in dual language education will also support Maercker Intermediate School as the Dual Language program expands to third grade in the 2025-26 school year.

“It’s beautiful that students are learning a second language because they are also learning about culture and that exposure builds character,” said Corona. “I am really passionate about those intermediate grades and in meeting parents and staff in D60, it felt like they were very invested in their school and the community and I wanted to be a part of that. I am excited to use my skillset to help teachers get better and students to continue to grow!”

In his free time, Dr. Corona loves to cheer on the Bears and the Cubs and spending time with his family. He will be starting with the district on July 1, 2025.
